What to do if you hit a dog with your car?

One of the worst things that could ever happen to a dog is them getting hit by a car. Usually when this happens, the dog ends up in doggie heaven and the dog owners are left feeling crushed and feeling the blues. There have been a number of cases where the owner has hit their own dog making the already horrible situation even worse. Regardless, if you hit your dog or somebody else’s dog, you must know what to do in order to save the dog’s life.

Dogs are wonderful pets and can be a person’s best friend. It is a true tragedy when a dog is hit by a car and dies. Many people are left feeling like they lost a member of their family when this happens. In the case where you hit a dog with your car, it is very vital that you know what to do in order to save the owners the grief they may feel when they get the news of you killing their dog. When you first hit a dog with your car, immediately pull over and check to see what kind of condition the dog is in. Call your local veterinarian’s office and notify them of what has happened. If you can, pick up the dog with a blanket if you have one and drive them to your local vet’s office. Make sure to put something over their bodies in order to keep them warm. If it isn’t possible for you to pick the dog up, make sure to try and wrap th dog up on the ground so that they remain warm. Use a blanket or a jacket or whatever you have in order to do this. When contacting the vet’s office, they should send out an animal control vehicle to come help you out in your situation.

When an animal control vehicle arrives and helps the dog out, you should explain to them what happened and see if there is anything you can do. If the dog survives, you should pay for the vet bills and apologize to the dog owners for what you did. If the dog passes away, you should still pay for the pet bills and be very apologetic to the dog owners. Even though you may not have done it on purpose, one must remember that a dog does not have the ability to realize that a car is coming and may crunch his head. Dogs don’t have a conscience like humans do that can tell them when danger like that is approaching. Hitting a dog with your car is a bad event and it is wise to know what to do if this ever happens to you.
