PetPlan Pet Insurance Review

Millions of pet owners are choosing PetPlan pet insurance to provide the best health care for their dogs and cats due to the variety of affordable plans, ease of making claims and rapid reimbursement period. Routine wellness care is not covered to ensure better assistance in the case of unexpected illness or injury. Policies through PetPlan are flexible and designed for customization for pets of all ages while allowing owners to choose the veterinarian they feel is right for their dog or cat.

petplanThough many insurance companies require pets to be 8 weeks or older to enroll, PetPlan accepts enrollment as early as 6 weeks of age. One outstanding benefit that PetPlan offers is coverage for pre-existing conditions that are considered curable, such as ear infections or internal parasites, after a temporary exclusion period that follows treatment. Conditions that are not considered curable, such as diabetes or hyperthyroidism, will not be covered if noted prior to the enrollment period.

Though they do not provide wellness plans, PetPlan offers a variety of comprehensive and inclusive plans for owners to design to their pet’s specific needs. Owners can choose an annual coverage limit that is as low as $2,500 or as high as $25,000; a plan for unlimited annual coverage is also available. The deductible chosen may be as low as $100 or as high as $1,000 based on what an owner feels they can handle in an emergency and may be an annual deductible or per-incident.

The reimbursement rate plans offered are bronze (70%), silver (80%) and gold (90%). The parameters an owner chooses will directly affect the monthly premium fee they pay. A lower deductible and higher reimbursement rate will result in a higher monthly premium than a high deductible with a lower reimbursement rate will.

PetPlan covers a more inclusive list of veterinary care than many other companies. Regardless of the annual coverage limit desired, all PetPlan insurance plans provide reimbursement for a wide range of diagnostics and treatments. Illnesses, injuries and accidents are covered by all provided plans. Unlike other pet insurance companies who consider the examination charge to be the owner’s responsibility, PetPlan does cover the examination fee charged by the veterinarian to provide an extra benefit for pet owners.

Veterinarians often need to run blood tests or perform diagnostic imaging, such as radiography or ultrasound, to determine the cause or extent of illness. These diagnostics, including more expensive options such as MRI or CT scan, will be covered by all plans. Required treatments, whether it is a prescription medication or surgery and hospitalization, as well as rehabilitation therapy are also covered.

Plans with a $15,000 annual coverage limit will also cover boarding fees if needed, vacation cancellation in the instance of a pet emergency and the costs, including an offered reward, associated with a lost pet who has been stolen or has wandered away. A high annual coverage limit will also provide behavioral therapy and death coverage.

Pet owners who select PetPlan pet insurance will not be disappointed by their coverage or costs. Monthly premiums range from $8 in a young, healthy kitten to $60 in an older dog with health conditions. The option to customize a policy for a pet’s specific needs also allows owners to determine separate policy parameters for different pets.
