Best dog food for beagles

Beagles are among the most popular dogs in the USA and the world at large. They’re actually ranked fifth in the most popular dog chart.

I mean, who wouldn’t love a Beagle? They’re adorable, sweet, and friendly❤️.

However, for you to have your Beagle for a long time, you’ll need to feed them with the right food. This is actually harder than you think because they’re not exactly picky, and most of them will eat literally anything that’s thrown their way.

That said, you want to ensure they have the best dogs for Beagles to get all the nutrients they need. And lucky for you, that’s what this blog post is about.

What is the Best Food for Beagles?

Unlike other dogs who are sensitive, Beagles don’t have very many health requirements. All you need is to ensure they eat high-quality food, and you’re got to go.

Here are my top recommendations.

1. Taste of the Wild Dry Dog Food

I know that many dog owners haven’t been able to look past the ‘FDA WARNING’ that’s everywhere in the comments.

I get that.

However, the Taste of the Wild has been in business for a long time. And their food continues to be rated as one of the best dog foods in the industry

The dog food industry is huge and so much happens behind the scenes. Anyway, I won’t go into the political side of it right now.

Let the quality speak for itself.

For starters, the brand tries to create the food the wild beagles used to it. The food is made with roasted meats to give your puppy the nutrients they need.

The first three ingredients are buffalo, lamb-meal, and chicken in that order, so you can be assured your pooch is getting all the proteins they need.

The grain-free food is rich in carbohydrates since it contains potatoes, peas, and sweet potatoes.

What we like

  • It has a high protein level (32%)
  • It contains vitamins and minerals from superfoods and fruits
  • It has omega fatty acids to give your Beagle a sleek fur
  • It contains antioxidants, probiotics, and prebiotics to protect your dog’s immune system

What we didn’t like

  • A few buyers have complained about their poor packaging

2. Blue Buffalo Wilderness Rocky Mountain

Every time I write about the Blue Buffalo food, I can’t help but talk about their lovely dog Blue who inspired the foundation of the company 🥺.

But I won’t do that today; I’ll go straight to why the Blue Buffalo Wilderness Rocky Mountain is a good choice for your Beagle.

For starters, its first ingredient is red meat, which allows your dog to maintain lean muscles while satisfying its wild side.

It also contains healthy ingredients such as peas, sweet potatoes, and omega 3& 6 fatty acids.

Lastly, it contains antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins carefully selected by animal nutritionists and vets.

What we like

  • It doesn’t contain any chicken by-products
  • It improves brain and eye development
  • It doesn’t contain wheat, corn, soy, or any fillers
  • It doesn’t have artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors

What we didn’t like

  • A few dogs vomited after eating their food (none of them was a beagle, but it was worth mentioning).

3. Orijen Regional Red

Orijen is one of the most nutritious dog foods, and its rich ingredient lists explain its popularity.

Also, if you have a sensitive beagle, this may just be the right food for them. One amazon user says that since they started feeding their dog with Orijen, she has stopped vomiting and chewing on blankets.

Your dog will also love the food because it’s made up of 85% quality animal proteins. To give you an idea of how much protein your dog gets from the food, the first non-meat ingredient is almost 20th on the list.

The top ingredients of the food are raw beef, goat, boar, and lamb: the whole prey diet targets the most succulent organs, meat, and bones to keep your dog interested.

What we like

  • It has very many meat ingredients on the top, which is very rare
  • It has three probiotic strains
  • It has fruits and vegetables to boost your dog’s immune system
  • It keeps your Beagle interested

What we didn’t like

  • It’s very pricey

4. Wellness CORE SIX Small Breed Sustainable

If you are sensitive and seem to have an allergy to all foods, my advice is always to go for food with few ingredients. This way, your dog doesn’t miss out on the nutrients or flavor, but you also know exactly what they’re eating.

The Wellness CORE SIX Small Breed formula is a good choice for this category as it only has six ingredients.

Your Beagle puppy will still enjoy the food as salmon is the first ingredient and develop strong muscles and bones thanks to the high protein.

It’s also fortified with probiotics, vitamins, and minerals to improve your dog’s immune system and omega fatty acids to give your dog lustrous fur.

What we didn’t like

  • It’s easy to absorb and digest
  • It’s good for dogs with food allergies
  • It doesn’t have soy, wheat, or any common allergens
  • It has a proper fat and protein balance
  • It doesn’t contain any artificial flavors or preservatives

What we didn’t like

  • They don’t have large packages, and buying in small bags isn’t exactly economical.

5. Wellness CORE Natural Grain-Free Dry Dog Food

I know my previous recommendation was from Wellness Core, but that’s mostly for sensitive dogs.

Additionally, some pet parents are skeptical about dog foods with less than ten ingredients, so I thought I should include this Well core grain-free dry dog food.

The food is very great for beagle puppies as the ingredient list has all the nutrients they need. For example, it has a protein content of 36%, which is good for your active beagle. The protein is sourced from chicken, chicken meal, and turkey.

It also has carrots, broccoli, apple, kale, blueberries, and spinach, rich in antioxidants.

Lastly, it has yucca schidigera extract, which reduces their poops odor (pretty cool, right?), and Chicory root extract to keep them satisfied and ensure their stool is healthy.

What we like

  • It’s grain-free
  • It’s made with real chicken and turkey
  • It’s gluten-free
  • It has the right balance of fiber (5%), fat (18%), and protein (36%).

What we didn’t like

  • It triggered allergy reactions for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

6. Purina Pro Plan Adult Weight Management Dry Dog Food

As I mentioned in the introduction, beagles can eat anything you feed them; this makes them very prone to obesity.

If you recently took your dog to the vet and they advised you to put your Beagle on a diet, the Purina pro plan adult weight management dry food is your best shot.

You get to help your Beagle manage their weight while still enjoying good food.

The food is super tasty as it contains shredded chicken pieces, which make up 26% of the food.

Additionally, the food has an excellent protein to fat ratio, which is crucial in weight management. It also has omega fatty acids from plants oils and fish oil, which sustains its diet while keeping the fat content at 9%.

Unlike other suggestions in this list, this food has grain (corn and brown rice), which acts as the primary energy source.

What we like

  • It has high-quality protein and a low-fat content
  • It helps in omega fatty acids and plant oils
  • It has a 4.8 rating on amazon
  • It reduces weight gain

What we didn’t like

  • Nothing significant

If you’re looking for good food for your senior Beagle, you need to ensure they have nutrients that fit their current needs.

The Victor purpose food for seniors is tailored for seniors, including those struggling with weight problems due to limited movements.

It also has exciting ingredients that serve a purpose in your Beagle’s wellbeing. For instance, it has probiotics, selenium yeast, and prebiotic fiber, which allows easy & healthy digestion.

It also has chelated minerals that help absorb minerals and vitamins, helping your senior Beagle maintain an optimum immune system.

Additionally, it has glucosamine and chondroitin that helps in keeping their joints and muscles strong as they age.

Lastly, it has L-carnitine that helps convert fat into energy and a unique VPRO Blend that promotes digestion & the immune system.

8. NUTRO ULTRA Adult Dry Dog Food

I decided to end my list on a high note because Nutro Ultra is a big name in the industry, and they deliver what they promise.

This food is my favorite because it contains three protein sources: chicken, lamb, and salmon. The lean animal proteins work with amino acids, ensuring your dog has strong & lean muscles.

It also has antioxidants that boost your Beagle’s immune system and Linoleic Acid, giving your dog shiny and sleek fur.

Lastly, it’s fortified with vitamins, minerals, and taurine. They all help in boosting the overall health of your dog.

What we like

  • It has chicken, lamb, and salmon as the first ingredients
  • It gives your dog a shiny and sleek fur
  • It contains antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals
  • It gives your dog a healthy skin

Best Dog Food for Beagles Buyer’s Guide

As usual, I will dedicate this section to a few tips that will help you get the right food for your Beagle if you didn’t get a good fit on our list.

Unlike other dog breeds, Beagles have a less complicated diet because their illnesses are hereditary and have nothing to do with their diet.

This makes it really easy for beagle pet parents, but it’s still important to feed them with high-quality food to live a quality life.

Here are some factors to consider when buying food for your pet beagle.

Proper nutritional balance

Like other adult dogs, it’s essential that you feed your dog with food that has a nutritional balance. It should have good fat, protein, and fiber ratio and a good source of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

For example, if your dog is overweight and you need them to lose weight, food with 27% protein and 9% fat would be a great choice.

Age

When buying food, ensure it’s appropriate for your dog’s age. For example, a puppy requires food that gives them high energy levels because they’re active, while seniors don’t need that much energy.

This means the ingredients in a senior beagle’s food are different from those in a beagle puppy food.

Health condition

Every dog is different, and some are more sensitive than others. If your Beagle is delicate, always go for food with limited ingredients or food designed for dogs with a sensitive stomach.

Artificial additives

Lastly, ensure that you buy your food that has no artificial colors, preservatives, or flavors to avoid any long-time adverse effects.

Best Dog Food for Beagles (Final Thoughts)

Beagles are among the best furry friends to have around, especially if you want a pet with few health complications.

They’re somewhat calm, and they’re pretty much low-maintenance. They’re not picky eaters so getting the right food for them isn’t very stressful.

I hope you found a good fit for your dog from my review.

If you loved this blog post, don’t forget to share it with other beagle parents ❤️.
